Goodbye Plastic Wall

Today is ceiling dry wall day. We have taken down our plastic barrier since we will be able to close off the attic space and maintain a constant level of heat throughout the whole house instead of the 20 degree difference between the back of the house and the family room. Insulation really is amazing stuff. I'm happy about the warmth and the progress, but ceiling dry wall is by far my least favorite part of the renovation process for a few reasons....
Official Kitchen Before

1. The drywall sheets are thicker and heavier and you have to lift them onto the drywall jack and manipulate them into just the right spot in an upside down position.

2. When cutting the pieces you have to visualize what they need to look like flipped in another direction (which I am horrible at) so I am always second guessing Eric's cuts, which makes him annoyed since he is really good at visualizing that stuff.

3. In my first experience with ceiling drywall I had the flu and we had to hang 20 sheets of heavy drywall. I cried numerous times for many reasons, one of which was that my fingers kept getting pinched because I was on one end of the 12 ft. sheet and Eric couldn't see my fingers.

4. No construction in a 1917 house seems to be level, square, line up correctly, or consistent in anyway. This means lifting and lowering the drywall jack and cutting the piece an average of 6 times before you can attach it to the ceiling.

5. We are putting sheets of drywall over lathe and plaster and in our kitchen much of it fell down because of previous water damage. This means we have to patch the ceiling underneath the drywall, try to make it level, and then put the other piece on. Really it's double the work which is not preferable.

6. Most of the day is spent like this......
needless to say, we've had a few breakdowns.
